Description

Fiverr is an Israeli well-known freelancing (or E-lancing) site that allows you to offer your services directly to people, globally. Don’t be put off by the name – it comes from the $5 asking price that many tasks were set at when the site was launched in 2010, but very little can be purchased for a fiver so you don’t have to set your fees that low.

You’ll need an online sellable skill to establish yourself on Fiverr. Examples of skills include:

There are an enormous range of categories (700+) and whatever your skill, you can probably find a market for it here.

You get clients on Fiverr by advertising ‘gigs’. These always begin ‘I will…’. For example “I will publish a fashion and jewelry guest post on quality blogs.” You can create packages, offering a Basic gig and then optional upgrades (Standard and Premium) which may relate to additional services or delivery time.

Pay

You set your rates of pay. However, competition is fierce. You are up against over 50,000 other freelancers from Pakistan, 28,000 from Bangladesh and 24,000 from the United Kingdom (plus thousands from other countries). There are more than 166,000 listings for Logo design alone. So you need a strong portfolio (even if it’s just examples of what you can do) and you may need to set your rates lower than others to establish yourself initially and earn some reviews.

Fiverr ranks its freelancers by levels which are supposed to reflect the user’s skill and experience. There are four levels: New Seller, Level One Seller, Level Two Seller, and Top Rated Seller.

Fiverr charges a 5.5% service fee (correct in the US) on payments which is covered by the customer.

Options for payment include: PayPal, Fiverr Revenue Card, Bank Transfer, Direct Deposit, and Payoneer Account.

Reviews

Fiverr gets a rather low rating of 2.7/5 on Trustpilot. Remember that this will be partly buyers and partly sellers. Many of the complaints appear to come from buyers, who say they are often asked to accept work as complete before it actually is (i.e. they want to request revisions). On the flip side, sellers say they are at the mercy of clients who request multiple revisions outside of the original project requirements (not uncommon in the world of freelancing!)
