It’s hard to know what category to put Swagbucks in. It allows you to earn for a range of activities such as completing surveys, watching videos, or answering polls. It awards you with ‘SB’ – points – which you can exchange for gift cards, PayPal credit or other rewards. But, you can also get SB as cashback for shopping online and offline at a bunch of stores and restaurants you likely use already, and there are 1500 retailers that participate in their program.

All the ways to earn Swagbucks include:

• Completing surveys – You can answer surveys and polls that vary in length, from 2 to 40 minutes. According to Swagbucks, this could yield between 300-500 SB per hour.
• Installing and playing free games – There are various game offers, like installing Monopoly Go and reaching board 101 (3,125 SB) or playing Animal & Coins up to level 250 (potentially up to 10,000 SB). Other games with Swagbucks offers include King of Avalon, where reaching level 18 rewards 4,838 SB, and Rise of Kingdoms, where level 17 earns 4,000 SB.
• Earning cashback when shopping online – You can earn Swagbucks as cashback from over 2,000 online stores, such as Nike (2% cashback), Boots (2%), and Argos (1%). Cashback rates may vary, so it’s best to compare with other cashback options to ensure the best deal.
• Exploring new services and products – Swagbucks offers SB for trying out different services, like checking your credit score with Experian (500 SB), opening a Revolut account (1,000 SB), or trying HelloFresh (800 SB). Be mindful to cancel any trial services you no longer want to avoid charges, and check the Swagbucks terms to make sure you’ll still receive your points.
• Use the Swagbucks search engine – Switch your default search engine to Swagbucks and earn points for browsing online. It’s an easy way to accumulate points by simply searching as usual.
• Install the ‘Swagbutton’ browser extension – This add-on shows you where you can earn SB while browsing partner sites.
• Invite friends to join – For each friend who signs up, you’ll earn 300 SB and receive a 10% bonus on their future earnings.
• Daily goals and task lists for extra SB – Swagbucks sets goals and to-do lists that offer bonus SB, like earning 40 SB within a certain time frame for a small bonus or completing a list of activities for 1-4 SB.

Swagbucks isn’t a fast earner or a big earner. For example, completing a 15 minute survey gives you about 100SB. At that rate, it will take 187.5 minutes, or about 3 hours and 7.5 minutes, to earn £10. That puts your hourly rate at about £3.20.

You can earn plenty of SB for playing games but it can take hours, days or weeks to achieve them.

You can of course boost your Swagbucks with browsing and regular shopping for items you were going to buy anyway.

There are some bonus deals to boost the Swagbucks – for example, you can get 500 for signing up with Experian to check your credit score, and that only takes a couple of minutes. However, we don’t see this site as a second income generator.

Reviews

Swagbucks is rated 4/5 on Trustpilot. A common complaint is that surveys ask quite a lot of questions before telling you that you don’t qualify. and this feels like a waste of time. Some people also complained about having to verify their account. While this should be a fairly standard procedure, we can understand the frustration. Our account was immediately suspended on signup with a note that Swagbucks were unable to verify identities in our country (UK) and to select another (which makes no sense and in any case, there was no mechanism to do so.) The ‘help’ option comes with a 30 day waiting time.
